At High Tech High North County we have one day a year that underclassmen find someone to shadow. I chose to shadow the director of the Regional Crime Lab of San Diego's Police Department. I went in for about an hour and got to interview Mike Grubb. I expected to get many answers to the questions I prepared. I also hoped to get a new idea for internship opportunities. He taught me how to prepare now to get a job as a forensic scientist after college. The director of the lab makes many final decisions of what the scientists test for, he distributed cases, and talks to detectives daily. He told me about his journey and what he did to get to where he is today. In conclusion, I am very grateful for getting the opportunity to meet with a director of a crime lab. Although I wish that I had learned more about internship opportunities, I did learn that none available in the forensic field for high school students. I hope to one day have a career as a forensic scientist and I believe that this experience helped me learn how to get there.
